Will the BNI work for me?
We’d like to say yes to everyone, but that isn’t the case. It really depends on you. It’s not so much your profession or occupation that matters as to the amount of effort you are willing to put in. If you do, you’ll reap the rewards. As we say in BNI, “Givers Gain”.
Putting in the effort means turning up to meetings every week. It’s important to establish good relationships with your fellow members and the only way to do that is to meet them regularly and to get to know them. That way, when possible business for you comes their way, they’ll be confident in recommending you.
If you can’t attend one week, not to worry. People need holidays, and people in business more than most! So if you are away for any reason, just organise for someone else to stand in for you – a friend, colleague or even a client. Many BNI members like to use the opportunity of ‘subbing’ at other BNI chapters to broaden their horizons and as a member, you can do the same. That works both ways, so if you can’t find someone to stand in for you, you can probably find a member from another chapter who will be happy to. There’s even a dedicated website for helping you both recruit a substitute, or find opportunities elsewhere.
By far and away the best way to see if you think it’ll work for you is to come and visit our chapter. Doing so will let you experience the full flavour of a meeting with no obligation to join. You might even walk away with some valuable new contacts.
Let us know when you would like to come along and when. Just remember to bring £10 to cover the cost of your breakfast, a big stack of business cards to pass round, and a 60 second verbal introduction to you and your business.
